Horsemanship

This publication is one of the pamphlets in the Boy Scouts of America Merit Badge Series. It is, of course, difficult to cover a complex subject in an 80-page pamphlet. I'm sure the idea behind the publication is simply to give scouts a broad overview of the topic.

The "Second 2005 Printing" of this pamphlet is a great improvement over the 2003 printing. I was told that time constraints did not permit a major re–write, but a number of problems with the first printing were addressed in the second printing.

Scouts and their counselors must use this text as a way for the scouts to earn their horsemanship merit badge. This brief publication, however, should not take the place of a more thorough study of horses and more hands–on riding instruction.

Hopefully, the Boy Scouts of America will continue to work on improving future editions of this pamphlet. Future generations of both scouts and horses would benefit.
